I was just going to do one line for an ad that read, ‘Twas the night before Christmas, and with nary a frown, the main street dance theatre was performing downtown." I ended up doing every voice I could think of and before I knew it, the file was more than five minutes long.
It doesn't take much to amuse me.

Mon, 06 Dec 2010 13:20:00 -0800 Why I will never shop online again at Target. http://jayhmt.posterous.com/why-i-will-never-shop-online-again-at-target http://jayhmt.posterous.com/why-i-will-never-shop-online-again-at-target

It may be a great building, but the online presence sucks.
I got a great online-only deal for someone for Christmas. Whip out the ol' card, and prepare to "1-Click to order" away! "Sign in with your Amazon account," it teased me. Easy enough. Now, where'd the special go that was just here a minute ago? Dig my way through and find it after a five-minute hunt. Put it in the cart and check out! Done!
    NO.
My cart is empty since I'm inside Target.com wearing the cloak of Amazon.com around me. I have to create a Target account to actually buy the damn thing!
Ok, create the Target account, give it all the same information that is in my Amazon account. Order the damn thing. Now I'm done, right?
    NO.
It doesn't want a PO Box, it wants a street address. No biggie. I give them work address in case it needs to be signed for. After all, UPS doesn't deliver to PO boxes, right?
Using the ingenious TrackThis via Twitter, I follow my little box from Eden Prairie, Minnesota to Bozeman. I get a notice saying it was delivered on Friday. I didn't get a package at work. I even called three people who were there before me (UPS said it was delivered at 7:30am), but no one saw the UPS man.
I get online go to the Target site. I have to have the order number to get to my account. And no, you CAN'T ENTER WITH YOUR GODDAMN AMAZON ACCOUNT.
I enter the order number and it tells me "a secure link has been generated to your order. Please check your e-mail." One more nail in target.com's coffin, one more hassle. Once I click on the link, I can get the UPS tracking number and follow it on the UPS site. Here's what the "Proof of Delivery" says:

Shipped/Billed On: 11/29/2010

Delivered On: 12/03/2010 7:32 A.M.

Delivered To: BOZEMAN, MT, US

Signed By: POST OFFICE

Location: OFFICE

My UPS package was delivered to the fucking post office! Now, here comes the fun part. We don't get our mail at work via an actual address we have a...wait for it...PO Box number where we receive our mail. I called UPS a few minutes ago and was told that target.com used the cheapest shipping mode available to get my package to me. That means they dump it at the Post Office. Who now has a package with an address, that according to them, doesn't exist! Now I have to climb through a bureaucratic crap-hole to find my little box, which still has to make it to Canada before Christmas! I just may have to tell Loretta she's getting a very, very early Valentine's Day present.

I just wish the camera was 5 megapixels like the iPhone.

The reason it gets a little blinding at some points, is by this time, the sun was pretty low and I was shooting right into it as we walked.

Sun, 03 Oct 2010 18:39:46 -0700 Apparently, Colter and I are not supposed to go camping. http://jayhmt.posterous.com/apparently-colter-and-i-are-not-supposed-to-g http://jayhmt.posterous.com/apparently-colter-and-i-are-not-supposed-to-g The Friday of Labor Day weekend, Colter and I set out for four day of
camping in Waterton National Park, just across the US/Canada border.
He's always wanted to go to Canada, and since it's only about six and
a half hours, this was the perfect time to go.
About six miles south of Browning, Montana, in full view of mountains
that ring the edge of Glacier National Park, and within sight of Chief
Mountain, near the border, the transmission in my Escape crapped out.
After about an hour of calling around (we were as close to Nowhere as
we could get), we finally go a tow to Conrad, where my truck stayed in
the shop for three weeks.
This weekend, we decided it was close enough to the end of camping
season, that we'd better try and go now, and get in a dip at Chico Hot
Springs before going through Yellowstone the next morning.

I don't think we're supposed to go camping anymore in 2010.

1. We were going to stay in a free spot in Paradise Valley just beyond
Snowbank Campground. It was closed due to bear activity.

2. We went 13 miles (in the opposite direction) to Pine Creek. Closed
due to bear activity.

3. We decided just to head to Chico to go swimming and possibly head
home after that. Once we finished our dip and had supper, we decided
to push on to Mammoth Hot Springs in Yellowstone to stay there.

4. The sign read: Mammoth -- FULL. The next closest campground in
Yellowstone was 90 minutes away. It was already 7:00 and daylight was
leaving us. Quickly.

5. We turned around and went back to Gardiner and checked out Eagle
Creek Campground. One spot left. Luckily, I've had to put my tent up
many many times in the dark, so this was no problem.

6. Around 12:30 there was either an elk licking the tent or a bat
smacking against it over and over. My first worry was that the bat was
INSIDE the rainfly, and therefore, going to shit all over the tent,
with it dripping down on us.

7. Colter woke at 6:30. WIDE awake. It was near freezing, but we got
up and packed and ready to head to Yellowstone. As I pulled out of our
spot. My front left wheel went WAY up in the air with a screeching
noise, as did my rear wheel after that. My first thought was that I
had parked to close to a rock in the dark and didn't remember it was
there when we left. No, actually, I drove over the fire ring. With
both wheels. Bent it all to hell.

At least the transmission held up.

Sat, 11 Sep 2010 21:18:40 -0700 Remember when HBO was where you went to watch great shows on TV? http://jayhmt.posterous.com/remember-when-hbo-was-where-you-went-to-watch http://jayhmt.posterous.com/remember-when-hbo-was-where-you-went-to-watch Well, no longer.

HBO pioneered great programming with shows like "Dream On," "Larry Sanders," then "Sex in the City," "Curb Your Enthusiasm,"  "The Sopranos," and even mini series like "Band of Brothers."

For me, the new network to watch is FX. In the last couple of years, I've gotten hooked on "The Shield," "Sons of Anarchy,"  and "Justified." I just watched the season premiere of "Sons" last night, and it was powerful stuff indeed.

Tonight, I watched yet another show that was killer on FX. "Terriers," starring Donal Logue. It's shepherded , and a few episodes are written by Shawn Ryan, the creator of "The Shield" (according to IMDB, along with few directed by Adam Arkin--Ethan Sobel on "Sons.") There are also a few episodes credited to  Phoef Sutton. You know that name. You just don't know you do.

Tonight TiVO offered me a full preview of Fox's new show "Lone Star." For whatever reason, Fox's record is nowhere near as good as it's little brother FX's record. But what the hell, it's free and it's two weeks before it premieres on Fox, so I'll give it a go.

All summer long, I was waiting for the return of "Sons of Anarchy," and now I'm pining for "Justified" to return. Long live the guys and gals at FX who have the balls to trigger these kinds of shows.

Tue, 29 Jun 2010 22:07:51 -0700 This Weekend with Colter in Paradise Valley and the Boulder River Valley http://jayhmt.posterous.com/this-weekend-with-colter-in-paradise-valley-a http://jayhmt.posterous.com/this-weekend-with-colter-in-paradise-valley-a This is from last weekend, along Mill Creek in Paradise Valley.
It was our combination Father's Day/early Birthday trip since I had
him during an "odd" weekend. We spent three hours in the pool at Chico
that evening. What a great weekend with my little camper.
His birthday is this week, and I got him his very own convertable
pants and a new sleeping bag. I'm hoping to take him to Glacier later
this year and into Waterton, so he can say he's been to Alberta before
Loretta. (I keed, honey).
The other pics are from along the Boulder River south of Big
Timber. The water shooting out is a channel cut throught the limestone
in the Boulder. When the water is running high, it goes over the top.
When it slows down, it goes through the channels cut beneath the
ground into the limestone.
The last picture is from the bank of the Boulder, just above the
"dry" part of the waterfall. Who knew CACTUS grew in the mountains of
Montana?!

Mon, 28 Jun 2010 12:12:46 -0700 I just met Bill Pullman http://jayhmt.posterous.com/i-just-met-bill-pullman http://jayhmt.posterous.com/i-just-met-bill-pullman
101_0258

All the years I've lived in the Gallatin Valley, I've only met or seen one famous person, and believe me, they're here. Dave & Dean have golfed with Morgan Freeman and Charlie Daniels, to name a couple. Tom Cruise was downtown a few years ago at a new Mexican restaurant. Michael Keaton shows up regularly. Still have never run into anyone at the Chico Saloon. However, I was working the board for Dave & Dean's show a few years back when Rich Hall came in to talk about his new play and got to meet him.
But today, I got to meet a bonafide movie star. Bill Pullman came in to record some things for friends of his. I was supposed to be behind the board recording him, but had to pass the job along as I was knee-deep into being the station geek and fixing someone's computer. I got to chat with him a bit afterward about a mutual friend we have (honest!) and got my picture taken as well.
Incredibly nice fella and a pleasure to talk with. Plus, I got proof that I met him!

Colter and I spent last Saturday and Sunday in Yellowstone. After his swimming lessons, we headed to the Bridgers to hike the "M." Half we up, we talked ourselves into sleeping outside that night. We headed home and packed out stuff to make our way to Yellowstone. Cold. That's the word to describe Sunday morning. But, there's nothing better than Yellowstone in the spring before all the touristas hit the park.
